The Playwrights Union hosts its 10th annual reading series of new work. These six original plays were drafted during a month-long writing challenge to our playwrights in February.

4pm VISITING HOURS by Jami Brandli

A reclaiming of the Persephone myth, now set in a psychiatric hospital, Visiting Hours follows the arduous journey of Stephie Green, a middle-aged music teacher who must break free from her complicated past in order to be reunited with her family.

6pm DESERT SURVIVAL RULES by Abbey Fenbert

Clare treks to the remote shrine of folk heroine Loretta North to discover what it takes to survive in the desert.

7:30pm THE ORDEAL OF WATER by Stephanie Alison Walker

1977. The first two female longshoremen at the Port of Los Angeles are trapped by their male co-workers in the cargo hold of a container ship just as it is heading to Shanghai. As they struggle to survive, they are visited by witches, who both help them and test them.

A group of misfit drama kids break into their abandoned high school auditorium in search of one last night of connection, hope, rhymes, and Fritos.

6:30pm SUNSHINE TERRACE by Dan Steele

Can Nathan and Alice’s relationship survive a Hollywood apocalypse? And more importantly, can Nathan still get his big break tonight?
