First Peek 2022 June 11-12 at Atwater Playhouse
We hope you can join us for our 12th Annual FIRST PEEK reading series featuring the brand new work of some of our member and alumni playwrights. Come participate in the process of play creation – the first in-person Playwrights Union event since 2019.
SATURDAY, June 11
5:30 PM – INVISIBLE by Lisa Kenner Grissom
A theatrical fantasia about a woman grappling with her ever-changing identity after being diagnosed with an invisible and incurable chronic illness with a strange name—Lupus.
7:00 PM – SLOWLY DROWNING by Jon Kern
Two strangers stranded in the Indian Ocean. Together, they must survive the intense sun, the gnawing starvation, and, worst of all, the aimless small-talk. Slowly Drowning is a comedy about how we weather disaster and what matters most when the end seems inevitable.
9:00 PM (or immediately following the second reading)
Raise a glass with us at our Post-Reading Gathering (outdoors!)
SUNDAY, JUNE 12
5:30 PM – HOW CAN YOU TELL by Steve Serpas
Scan in: Cayden and Samantha meet-cute in the metaverse as co-workers in a high-level DAO. When they decide to meet in IRL, their connection turns out to be passionate AF – but both have shady motives that threaten to pull their worlds apart. Are they GMI? How will they know their love is real?
Admission to all FIRST PEEK readings is FREE; reservations highly suggested and donations welcome
Playwrights Union requires proof of full vaccination (including a booster dose if eligible) to enter the building. Masks must also be worn at all times inside the building.
