Jeanette Farr is a playwright, producer and director of new plays, and holds an MFA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in playwriting from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her plays have been produced both domestically and abroad including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland, Canada, Singapore, and Japan. Her work has been recognized by the Nevada Arts Council, The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education. She is published through Dramatic Publishing, Smith & Kraus, Original Works Publishing, and online through 10-minute-plays.com and the New Play Exchange. An alumnus and guest artist of the Kennedy Center Summer Playwriting Intensive, and Tennessee Williams Scholar for the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Jeanette of is a member of AntaeusPlaywrights Lab, serving on the Playwright’s Panel, and a member of The Playwrights’ Union in Los Angeles.
Through Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, she has served on numerous reading committees, in addition to serving as Chair of the National Playwriting Program. She has been commissioned by Sierra Repertory Theatre to adapt Yoshiko Uchida’s children’s story, Journey to Topaz for touring; her play, Blue Roses, based on the life of Rose Williams won the international playwriting competition for Prospect Theatre Project; her play, Pitchin’ Pennies At the Stars was a finalist in the Mildred and Albert Pinowski Playwriting Competition; and her play, My Life As a Circus Baby is a 2014 Heideman Award finalist through the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville.
A former Literary Associate at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts. She is currently the Chair of Theatre Arts at Glendale Community College, Glendale, California where she teaches script analysis, acting, directing, and playwriting. She is a guest artist at the Orange County School of the Arts. In Los Angeles, she writes for SkyPilot Theatre Company, Moving Arts (Car Plays), North By South Theatre, and has had plays selected and performed at the Secret Rose Theatre in the NoHo Arts District, Theatricum Botanicum Seedlings series, and Scribe Stage.
